Vigilance urged by Law Society as cyber attack costs soar

The Law Society has urged solicitors to be more vigilant in the face of the growing cost of security against cyber attacks. It has stressed that While cyber attacks are a threat to all businesses today, law firms are particularly attractive sources of information and are thus increasingly vulnerable to attack.

In a survey commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) it was found that 81 per cent of large organisations suffered a security breach costing between £600,000 and £1.15m, while 60 per cent of small businesses reported a breach, costing between £65,000 and £115,000 on average.

In response to the ongoing concerns faced by firms, the Law Society has launched a cyber hub providing advice on how to avoid attacks and which brings together useful information and articles on cyber security.
