Otterburn survey – continuing merger activity

Otterburn survey – continuing merger activity

A survey undertaken by Andrew Otterburn, in association with the Law Society Gazette, has revealed that there continues to be strong merger activity within the legal sector.

The survey revealed that 86% of those firms surveyed had considered the possibility of a merger in the last six months, whilst the number of merger approaches made was up 25%.

Inevitably the likelihood of a merger varies according to the size of firm. However, the survey showed of those firms with more than 10 partners, 43% thought that there was a good chance that they would merge.

The survey went on to reveal that the main reasons for merger were improved size or structure and better post Legal Services Act opportunities.
