The Legal Services Complaints Commissioner is an independent, government-appointed regulator whose main powers were set out in the Access to Justice Act 1999 and who is appointed until the closure of the OLSCC on 31 March 2010, by which time the Legal Services Board, the new overarching regulator, will be fully operational.
The Office for Legal Complaints (OLC) has been established by the Legal Services Act 2007 to make sure users of legal services can go to an independent and impartial Ombudsman scheme to resolve disputes involving their lawyer.
The Legal Services Board is the new, independent body which is responsible for overseeing the regulation of lawyers in England and Wales in such a way as to put the interests of consumers at the heart of the system.
